This tutorial covers a few ways to increase your standing in some of the most popular search engines. There is a possibility that using some of these tips can get your website delisted from some search engines. Use at your own risk.
Step 1 - Create great content! This is the best way of course, creat great content so other sites link to your site. In general, the more links you get, the higher your rank is. Links aren't the only thing the search engines count however, so here are a few more.
Step 2 - Add keywords everywhere. The first place: in hidden fields. Some search engines will count these. Example:
<INPUT TYPE="HIDDEN" VALUE="Tutorials, Photoshop, Computers">
Step 3 - Use keywords in your site title. The more keywords you have, the more search terms will find your site. Include many. One little trick that works pretty well is titling your page more than once with a bunch of keywords. The site will only display the first title, so make that your real one. Example:
<TITLE>Tutorials, Photoshop, Computers</TITLE>
<TITLE>How To, hardware, software, web design</TITLE>
Try to keep the number of keywords to 8-12, they will be counted as more important in the search engines this way. Another way to do it is focus on one keyword and put it in multiple times. Example:
<TITLE>Tutorials</TITLE>
<TITLE>Tutorials</TITLE>
<TITLE>Tutorials</TITLE>
Step 4 - Put keywords in comments, some sites read these. Example:
<!-- Tutorials, Photoshop, Computers -->
<!-- How To, hardware, software, web design -->
Step 5 - Submit a sitemap to the popular search engines. Sitemaps help the search engine crawl your page, by giving it information for how often, when, and what it should crawl.
Google Sitemaps is the place to go for Googles.
